together for His glory

We live in a day and a culture where marriage, the bond that has held society together for thousands of years, is being downplayed, devalued, and redefined. What was once an ultimate and lasting commitment has become a mere flippant choice that can be undone as easily as it was made. Whitney and my hope in and for this marriage, to live together for His glory, goes against everything that our culture stands for. In a way we are crazy for choosing this so young. Me, at 22, choosing to forgo unrestrained fun and pleasure of the world for the responsibility of caring for another seems absurd. But in another very real way, it is completely rational. Thousands of years ago, God declared

"man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh."

As Whitney and I have chosen to commit to following Christ, we have chosen to commit to each other. We want to be obedient to the command of God and we want to share our journey in following Christ. This blog is our way of giving you a window into our lives, as we live together for His glory.

Our Story

She grew up a farm girl in central Missouri. He was a New England city boy, but not really. She met the Lord at a young age, hearing stories of God's hand at work in amazing ways through the lives of her family both at home and in Israel, South Africa, and Hungary. He spent three years of his childhood in China observing his parents try to impact a few so that many might know Him. They both grew. They both left home and went to college, she in Illinois and he in Ohio. She met his high school best friend at her college in Illinois. The best friend took her to see the ministry he was working for in Ohio. For a weekend their paths connected. A spark lit a small fire. But the Lord told her to leave school and go overseas. And the Lord told him to stay and finish. She didn't know why, but she did. He didn't know why but he did. The fire burned dimly, but it burned for two years. The Lord told her to go to Ohio to serve in the ministry where he was. And he was there, waiting.

I saw her again for the first time in the fall of 2012. I knew I would fall in love with her the second I saw her. I was so nervous, but so eager. I thought it would take two and a half years to convince her to marry me. Nine months later, I married her.

I saw him again for the first time in the fall of 2012. I had no idea what to expect. "Well, I bet he doesn't know he's been in my mind and prayers the past two years!" I laughed at myself. Feeling completely ridiculous, I attempted to be "realistic". We were going to be good friends, share in life for a time, and then part ways again. Nine months later, to my own surprise, I married him.
